Hydrostatic Level Sensors & Indicators are an excellent and cost effective way of measuring the liquid level inside a tank.
At the bottom of a tank or storage vessel the amount of pressure exerted by the liquid contained within the tank is at its greatest. As the liquid level increases, the pressure at the bottom of the tank increases proportionally. By measuring the amount of pressure exerted at the bottom of the tank, we can accurately calculate the level of liquid contained within the tank.
This measurement technique is called Hydrostatic level measurement and requires a sensor to be located at the base of a tank or vessel with a pressure sensitive device exposed to the liquid. This is normally via a specially machined diaphragm which very precisely calculates the changes in pressure.
There are two ways of ensuring that a hydrostatic level sensor is correctly located at the bottom of a tank. Either by suspending it from a wire and allowing it to sink to the bottom, called a suspended hydrostatic level sensor, or by fabricated boss or threaded fitting at the bottom of the tank and screwing in an insertion hydrostatic level sensor.
Each of the hydrostatic level sensors are 2 Wire devices, which means that the 2 wires which power the device, are the same two wires which transmit an industry standard 4-20mA signal, proportional to the measured level. This can be connected directly to a 4-20mA controller, a PLC or Data Logger.
